Each month, SEWI-ATD turns the spotlight on an active member. This month, we are proud to acknowledge the important work of one of our board of directors to help you to get to know her just a little bit better! If you are interested in nominating a member for the spotlight, contact Lovina Akowuah at Lovina.Akowuah@gmail.com or Meica Hatters at meicahatters@gmail.com.
Title: Director, Organizational Development Company: Children's Hospital of Wisconsin |
Get to know your VP of Finance... Genevieve Daniels Tell us a little about yourself. My passion is leading organizational development initiatives to improve how employees experience their work environment. Currently, I serve as Director, Organizational Development at Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin. I’m a proud member of SEWI-ATD and privileged to join the Board this year as VP, Finance. In addition to my work, my energy is focused on my family and community. My husband and I have three children (ages 13, 11 & 8). We like listening to live music, visiting new restaurants, and attending our children’s sports and performance activities. I enjoy staying active as a social justice educator for youth at a local church and as an Examiner for the Wisconsin Forward Award which recognizes outstanding achievements in organizational development and continuous improvement. In my free time I enjoy reading and have a large selection of books to choose from. I am originally from Green Bay, Wisconsin and received my Bachelor of Business Administration at University of Wisconsin at Milwaukee and Master of Science, Administration, Human Resources concentration through Central Michigan University. While in college, I spent a semester studying abroad in London and have enjoyed travelling both domestically and internationally since. What attracted you to the field of Talent Development? The field of talent and organizational development provides me the perfect balance of working directly with leaders and employees while also creating processes and structure. I love developing processes and programs that create inclusion, excitement, and help to cultivate the unique gifts of individuals. I have always enjoyed the study of sociology and this work combines well with my business and human resource degrees. Why do you enjoy being a member of SEWI-ATD? Ten years ago my family and I moved from Virginia back to Wisconsin. SEWI-ATD was a welcoming community where I was able to quickly get back into the Milwaukee talent development scene. Throughout the years, I have consistently found SEWI-ATD members fostering collaboration within our profession. The SEWI-ATD programs and events are top-notch. It’s my “go-to” place to stay current and to network with caring, intelligent, dedicated talent professionals. How do you define success? Success, to me, is the willingness to continuously learn and grow, being open to others’ ideas and learning from new paradigms that can bring us all success together. Solutions to the most difficult problems require expanding our thinking and seeking out different viewpoints or creative methods of finding solutions. Success means we lift each other up in new and unexpected ways for our shared community. Who or what inspires you? Why? People who give a voice to those who have not yet found their voice or give strength to those who need help discovering the gifts within themselves. There are countless illustrations of people who I pull from for this inspiration. My free time of reading that I mentioned above often includes biographies/autobiographies. Currently, I am reading Becoming by Michele Obama. The personal growth she experienced with her career, one from achievement-focused to fulfillment-focused, is an inspiration to me. If Hollywood made a movie of your life; who would you like to see play the lead role as you? Without a doubt, my childhood look-a-like from the 70’s, Melissa Gilbert (Laura Ingalls, Little House on the Prairie). What's a question I didn't ask that you wished I had? (and also give your answer) What would you like to see as a long-term result from the SEWI-ATD community? Ten years from now I hope members see the value and growth that was driven by all of us as members working together, providing opportunities and enhancing each other’s skill sets. There will be no doubt that exponential gains in both personal and professional growth were made through exchanges of information and collaboration, and that SEWI-ATD will continue to be the “go-to” place for our talent development community.
